Planning Tips for first-time couples going to Walt Disney World

So you want to go to Disney World?! Well you have come to the right place to get some information about planning your first trip to Walt Disney World. As we searched the internet it was extremely hard to find any information or tips to planning a Disney World trip as just a couple with no children. It was also easy to find information about going on a honeymoon. Unfortunately, we have no children and Disney World did not seem very appealing for our honeymoon trip, especially for our first trip to Disney World. This is the exact reason why we created this blog. Now, planning a Disney World trip can be very stressful and time consuming, but we are here to give you some of our tips!

Use the Disney World Site

Our first tip might be a hit or miss with some Disney World lovers. If you are planning your first trip to Disney World as a couple, it can be very overwhelming. There is so much to do and so much to know before you go to Disney World. The biggest advice we can give you is to use the Disney World website to plan your trip. Although many people will say to go through travel agents we find it more fun to plan your own trip yourself. Now, if you are pinching pennies or want to spend as little as possible it might be better for you to got through  travel agent. They will be able to get those discounts we will never be able to find. Although this is true, for us we like the convenience of planning the trip ourselves and seeing everything we can! You are able to book your tickets, hotel, fast passes, and dining all in one. The convenience of the Disney World website is the main reason we recommend using it while planning your first trip.

When To Go

Now you might be seeing many other blogs having this long list of times where the parks are very crowded and tell you the are precise times to visit Walt Disney World. In our honest opinion we must disagree with those times. The best time to go to Walt Disney World is anytime you find time to go. Now, we will agree that the parks can be very crowded during certain times of the year, but if you were to go during those times, you will just have to have a different strategy of what you want to see. For our first trip to Walt Disney World we went the last week of March. Although all of the blogs we researched said this was a very high peak time to go because of spring break we did not believe the parks were as crowded as it was portrayed. If you are not a crowd type of couple there are some optimal times to go to Disney World. Between The end of January and beginning of March will be a down time for crowds. The same could be said between the Beginning of September and the middle of October. If you do not mind crowds, just book a trip to Disney World. You will not regret it!

Resorts

When it comes to our Disney World trip this is were we like to save money, but are also very straightforward. We will probably never go to Disney World and stay off site as long as we go to Disney World. Although we love to save money we also like the convenience of everything Disney World likes to offer. Staying on site has everything that you need while you are at Disney World. At Disney World there are 3 different types of hotels to chose from: Value Resorts, Moderate Resorts, and Deluxe Resorts. As for this couple, we have only stayed at the value resorts so far during our trips. The main reason is the obvious in saving money. Staying at a value resort, especially the All-Star Resorts, will significantly lower your bill if you are going to Disney World. Although your price might go down you give up a lot staying at these resorts. These resorts are geared toward families. You will see many families at these resorts with A LOT of children. Also, if you stay in All-Star Sports you might see many athletic teams during your stay. With this, these resorts can be very loud all through the hours of the night. If your budget allows it and you do not want to deal with the noise and children you should go with a moderate or deluxe resort. We would recommend Port New Orleans French Quarter for moderate and Grand Floridian for deluxe.

Attractions

Understanding what attractions to visit while you are planning your Disney World trip is vital to a great trip. Our biggest advice to any couple visiting Disney World together for the first time is understanding you will not be able to see everything. Whether it be long lines or being exhausted from running around for multiple days there is a point where you cannot take it with attractions. As long as you accept you will not see everything the planning part will be much easier. Not seeing everything just ensures that you must come back to Disney World to see everything you missed the first time! Now with saying you won't see everything doesn't mean you will not see a lot of things. With the new FastPass+ system you are able to get 3 fast passes for different attractions at one park. These choices are on a tier system, but still allow you to hit 3 great attractions a day.The biggest advice we have for couples going to Disney World is set priorities to attractions. If you must see a certain attraction while you are at Disney World make sure you get a fast pass for it. As stated, you will only get 3 fast passes a day with this system so make sure they are attractions you would like. In our opinion, do not waste a fast pass on a show, parade, or fireworks. If you are wanting to go to more than 3 attractions a day our advice is to get to the parks early or stay as late as you can, especially in Magic Kingdom. If you are stumped on what attractions to see, check out all of our posts about attractions. We have the best attractions at each park and some underrated/overrated attractions in all parks.
Dining

If you are not going to Disney World as a family of more than two you might not agree with where this tip is going, but if you are going as a couple we have some great tips for you when it comes to dining. Dining can be very expensive at Disney World if you are not careful with your selections. This entire section of couple tips center around paying out of pocket and not getting a dining plan. In our opinion the dining plan is way too much food for two people. At least a dining plan that has 1 table side service a day. Our first tip would be make sure you have at least 1 table side service meal a day. It can either be dinner or lunch, but make sure you have at least 1. There are great places to eat in every park or outside the park in some resorts. Along with this, you MUST make reservations for your meals. If you do not do this you will miss out on places you wanted to eat. You are able to make reservations 180 days before your trip so make sure you get those reservations as close to this as you can. The second tip we would have for dining at Disney World is to bring your own food! We usually bring water, PB&J, beef jerky, granola bras, etc. We attempt to pack our lunch everyday and bring plenty of water. Of course, there are days when you want that mickey pretzel or mickey bar, but for the most part we try our best to bring our own food to help cost. Our final tip for dining at Disney World is to share! Portions are very big at Disney World and if you are going to WDW as a couple you can share entrees very easily.
